기차에서 내리면서 바라본 옛 고향집은 그대로 있구나
그리고 어머니와 아버지가 나를 맞아주시지
길 아래로는 달려가는 메리가 보여
금발 머리에 체리같은 입술을 가진 메리가 말이야
고향의 푸른 잔디에 안기니 정말 좋군

페인트 칠이 말라버려서 갈라지긴 했지만

 그 옛집은 아직 그대로 있고
내가 올라가 놀곤 했던 참나무도 있어
오솔길을 따라 메리를 바래다 주기도 했어
금발에 체리 은 입술을 가진 메리를...
고향의 푸른 잔디를 만져보니
말로 형언하기가 힘들구나

그 때, 깨어나 주위를 둘러보니
난 사방에 회색 빛 벽에 둘러싸여 있었어

왜냐하면, 보초병과 슬픈
얼굴의 늙은 신부가 있었거든..
 날이 밝으면 내 팔짱을 끼고 걸어 나가겠지
난 다시 고향의 푸른 잔디를 느껴 볼 거야
